I was fortunate enough to have taken his class when I started telling stories around the city. I learned, among other things, how to properly craft stories and to feel more confident and natural on the stage. Not to mention the fact that I became close friends with the other storytellers taking his class.

Scott Whitehair has become one of the 'go to' storytellers in Chicago and the country. Smart, poetic, funny, and utterly, amazingly HUMAN, Whitehair can spin a yarn like no one I know.

Scott facilitated a wonderful conversation among our staff around how to use stories to help enrich and deepen a family’s experience around its own history and the generational perspectives on that history. A big part of what we learned was not only how to listen differently but how to initiate the conversation by using personal experiences to help clients relate.”

I've known Scott Whitehair for a little over a year and he ranks at the top of my list of people to trust. He wears both his professionalism and immense respect for the art of storytelling on his sleeve. His compassion for storytellers and deep belief in the power of story manifest themselves in his own stories, the classes he teaches and the events he produces. It's difficult to find an educator, storyteller and producer in the city of Chicago who is as friendly and approachable as Scott.

"Scott is rare in that not only is he a talented artist and teacher, but he is professional. I hired him to teach a storytelling workshop for 10-12 year olds and he succeeded in engaging, teaching and inspiring them. I refer to his workshop lessons often when encouraging them to create solo performances."

Taking Scott’s class was one of the best experiences I’ve had. I was new to storytelling and not sure that it was for me or that I could even do it. Scott’s class changed that. As an instructor, he is kind, gentle in giving his very thoughtful critical feedback, and most of all, he allows me complete ownership of my story ... In preparing for any storytelling event, I harken back to all the lessons from his class. They stay with me. I can honestly say that my Moth Grand Slam win had so much to do with what I learned in his class.

We invited Scott to present at our all staff meeting. He provided an engaging and valuable overview of storytelling that helped to build institutional buy-in and foster collaboration across multi departments. His clarity of presentation, memorable examples, and practical tips made a huge impression on our staff and had immediate benefit for our organization.

We have had Scott share his stories at two library programs, and both times he proved himself not only to be a gifted storyteller, but also an approachable, friendly, and engaging presenter. His stories were both funny and touching, and he impressed me especially by taking the time to invite our attendees to share their own stories on the spot. He encouraged them to find their own voices, and how could they not be inspired to after witnessing such wonderful storytelling from him?

Our group of 20 is comprised of very diverse skills and experience levels, which is tough group to keep engaged. Scott was able to keep our entire group fully participating the activities, asking questions, etc. Each person left the session with new information to improve their own storytelling skills and competencies. The unexpected bonus - our team learned a lot about each other in the process through storytelling to each other. I highly recommend Scott Whitehair and his workshop for corporate teams.

Two years ago I added a storytelling unit to my creative nonfiction class, and I’ve been lucky enough to bring Scott in to work with my students each time I teach the course … The students enjoy working with him and find his coaching helpful. As a teacher, I love knowing that when Scott joins my classroom, students will gain skills for developing and delivering their stories and the confidence to do so!

When I first started trying to use storytelling I didn’t really know how to create stories that worked for me ... I now regularly use stories in my training sessions. Over the 12 months Scott’s been helping me improve my storytelling, I’ve found him to be insightful, thoughtful when giving feedback, practical, creative, and engaged.

As a student, his classes helped me find and believe in my voice as a storyteller but it's through working with him that I find Scott really inspiring. There are only a handful of people in the city with his passion and commitment to storytelling, to teaching others the art of it and working to spread as many people's story as possible. He works so hard and is so enthusiastic that it motivates me to push myself even further.

I sought storytelling instruction from Scott to more effectively communicate my ideas, tell a brand’s story, and lead teams toward a common vision. Scott brings his same, proven storytelling philosophy to corporations, nonprofits, and creative agencies as he listens to their needs and crafts engaging workshops that guide them in telling their stories.

Someone said to me that teaching the skills of storytelling to the Irish is "like bringing snow to the Arctic or sand to the Sahara," but not all Irish adults feel at home 'on stage'. With encouragement, perseverance, tact, and skill, Scott brought the students to discover for themselves a new talent, new competencies, and new awareness of themselves. As the tutor to the class, I was aware of the personalities 'going in' and, therefore, even more of the personality changes that were remarkable. Shy people discovered an openness, some others discovered their sense of humour, all discovered a facility for standing in from of others. As one student said to me; "I may never stand on a stage again, but I won't be afraid to stand before others and speak my truth, tell my story, and present my point of view."
